Welcome from Chapter President Janice L. Samberg

The Mid-America Healthcare Executives Forum is the local American College of Healthcare Executives Chapter that serves over 200 professionals in the Central/Southern Illinois Region. The group meets at least twice per year for its Chapter meetings. These meetings are usually combined with a guest speaker and offers either Category I or II credit from ACHE. These lectures attract healthcare executives and other healthcare professionals from throughout the Central/Southern Illinois region.

Our next Chapter meeting and guest speaker, Sheila Brune, is scheduled for Thursday, June 7, 2007. Her topic is titled, “When Knowledge Isn’t Enough – A Daughter’s Story.” Ms. Brune is a registered nurse and has an extensive history of clinical leadership roles. She is a well-known speaker on a variety of successful clinical improvement and risk management topics.

Annually the group conducts an advancement seminar to encourage and assist members with preparing for both the ACHE Board of Governors Exam and their Fellowship projects. The membership also promotes student participation in our Chapter and ACHE membership recruitment through visits to area healthcare administration programs.

Membership is free of charge to ACHE affiliates and is open to all healthcare professionals in the Central/Southern Illinois area.

Review for the Board of Governors Examination
Spring 2007

ACHE offers a variety of tools to help you prepare for the Board of Governors Exam. Affiliates typically find that it takes between three to six months to adequately prepare for the exam. Although these tools cannot ensure you pass the exam, many affiliates find them very helpful.

ACHE offers the Online Tutorial, which is a 12-week, self-study course that combines traditional materials with online resources. Participants receive a packet of reading materials that addresses the knowledge areas covered on the exam, as well as a syllabus that outlines the course schedule. They also will gain access to PowerPoint slides, audio lectures and a group message board. The dates are: April 23, 2007 to July 13, 2007.

A new, two-and-a-half-day course has also been developed to assist affiliates in reviewing for the exam. Faculty experts conduct the course and provide a comprehensive course syllabus and supplemental reading materials covering the ten knowledge areas: governance and organization; human resources; finance; healthcare technology and information management; quality and performance improvement; law and regulations; professionalism and ethics; business; management; and healthcare knowledge. In addition, a special section on test-taking strategies and approaches with sample test questions is also available. The review course will be offered twice in 2007—in late September and then again in early December.

Members that wish to take the exam must first submit a Fellow application. If the application is submitted by June 30, ACHE will waive the exam fee (waiver is valid for six months).
